[Politics] Doubt he’ll win

Yes, this is another political rant, and I sincerely apologise for subjecting you all to this, but I want to get this out of my head before I say something worse in real life and get arrested under the ISA for speaking my mind. (Sukina: I think you might get away with the talking in real life thing, just saying. *grins*)

That said, blogger Jeff Ooi is facing off against Penang’s Chief Minister Koh Tsu Koon in Jelutong. According to one of his newer posts on his blog, Rocky has predicted that Jeff will win. I don’t think so. In fact, if he did, it would be considered a giant-killer feat. Koh Tsu Koon looks very likely to retain his seat. Whether that will be by a comfortable margin or not is irrelevant. I was actually amused when I read who Jeff Ooi would be pitted against, and the acquaintance I mentioned this to came back with an immediate reply that put the whole thing into perspective.

“He’s going to lose his deposit.” Among other things mentioned, it was also seen as sending Jeff to be “slaughtered.”

Still, I do wish him all the best. I do not live in Jelutong unfortunately, but I do live in another area where DAP will be campaigning and you know what?

I’m hoping they’ll win and beat the odds to form the next government. Hey, a girl can dream, can’t she?

[Politics] One Sentence Post

The fawning of the local “national” media over their favourite overlords political parties is pretty sickening, especially when you get all the lovely “Opposition-don’t-know-this-and-that” and “That-that-this-is-a-scam” rhetoric from what is supposed to be the fourth estate but has turned into an arm of the main political coalition.

[Politics] Prudent Finance?

If you know me in real life, you know that there’s one particular politician that I just cannot stand. If he ever contested in my area (which is bloody unlikely considering that he’s a Malay and I live in a Chinese-majority constituency) I would be the first to meet him and tell him, “Baliklah. Dah makan duit kita orang, sekarang nak makan lebih?” Translated, that would mean, “Go home! You’ve eaten our money, now you want more?” He’s well-known for using government money to boost his egos with unneccessary and unwanted burdens.

The biggest policy he made a few years ago was about the introduction of National Service. Blergh is all I can say to that.

The biggest expenditure he made was to send a guy up into space using government aka taxpayer funds of RM100 million (or was it more?). And he says this in today’s NST:

When we (BN) are in charge of the government, we implement a responsible and prudent fiscal policy.

*Snorts* The best prudent fiscal policy we, the rakyat, could hope to implement is to kick this joker out of parliament. That’s highly unlikely given he enjoys very strong support.
