Writing

Inspired by this post.

Writing is not a hard job to do. Writing is a gift and a talent for those who have the gift of the gab and a good command of the language. There are two fields to choose from: Fact or Fiction. One requires hard facts and the ability not to talk down to the reader. The other relies on the ability to look at old things in a new light and the desire to tell a story. Both require a flair for languages, a willingness to lay your soul bare, and the need to open your mind.

For some, writing facts is easy. Partially, I think, because there’s a certain finalty and immutability to facts, there’s a certain backbone to them not apparent in literature. However, that doesn’t mean that facts don’t change. I like writing facts and opinions because I like to rant. However, that doesn’t mean that I’m partial to it. On the contrary.

Like most people, I find writing fiction the easiest of all. There’s no one to contend with but your own imagination. Nothing to fight with but the story that needs to be told. And then comes the familiar components of our stories:

Characters

Settings

Plot (MOST IMPORTANT, or so some would have you believe)

All these must be strung together to create a world that is believable, characters that you can relate to, and a plot that engages you. This is where most writers, including me, falter.

Why?

I don’t know about the rest, but for me, the story doesn’t take place in a logical, cause and effect manner. Far from it. It’s like real life, which is why it’s so chaotic at times. At the same time, I can’t help but write. It may not make sense to anyone else, but it does to me.
