Fields of Heather

An Idike FST.

Ludwig Kakumei is about this playboy prince who goes around looking for a princess to be his wife. In true Kaori Yuki fashion, along the way he decimates entire fairytales, including but not limited to revealing a very incestual Snow White, a gun-toting sniper-loving Red Riding Hood, a Rapunzel with anger management issues and a rather Mama’s Boy Blue Beard. Add to that a mix for having a preference for women with big breasts (minimum C-Cup, I believe) and necrophilia, and you have the recipe for a manga series that is far more gothic, disturbing and dark compared to Angel Sanctuary.

The only woman he truly fell in love with was Princess Fredrieke, or for short, Idike. Sleeping Beauty or Briar Rose as she’s called in the fairytales. Unlike the song-loving, sheltered maiden of Disney Lore, Idike grew up trying to vie for her father’s attention with the “witches” in the tall tower. She often wonders why her mother and her were ignored by the King. When she was 15, as per the curse, one of the witches revealed that Idike was the product of a rape of her mother and a common man. The blessings, it seemed, were more than just ceremony in her case; they were actually necessary to overcome the “taint.” A confrontation with her mother led to Idike’s self-esteem dropping and her cutting off her hair, as well as a belief that none of her talents and beauty were her own. She pricks herself on her finger and DOES fall asleep.

A hundred years later, a nosy prince picks up the pocketwatch Idike had buried when she was younger and meets her first in his dreams. And it is then that Ludwig is introduced to Idike.

Honestly, read the series. It’s much better than I give credit here! Onwards to FST we go! Also, songs are divided into Sides A and B. Sides A are English songs dealing with her growing up days and actual situations while side B is more of a background scenes/flashback. Enjoy!

Side A: English and ReasonsHere

Uematsu Nobuo – Black Water (Instrumental)
Creepy, haunting, there’s a strong sense of foreboding when you lay eyes upon Idike’s thorn-infested castle.

SNoW – Bleach (English version)
I don’t need, I don’t need, I don’t need destiny
Telling me what to believe
I will smile when I’m pleased

Idike has had enough of lies and decides to take things matter into her own hands.

Green Day – Boulevard Of Broken Dreams
My shadow’s the only one that walks beside me
My shallow heart’s the only thing that’s beating

As she walks up the stairs towards the last spinning wheel in her country…

Linkin Park – Bleed It Out
Mama help me, I’ve been cursed,
Death is rolling in every verse.

She pricks and sleeps.

Poison – Every Rose Has Its Thorn
Don’t think I need to post the lyrics here, do I?

Evanescence – Bring Me To Life
How can you see into my eyes like open doors
Leading you down into my core
Where I’ve become so numb without a soul my spirit sleeping somewhere cold

Ludwig is the first man, or rather person, who manages to see her true self at first glance.

Britney Spears – Toxic
Baby, can’t you see
I’m calling
A guy like you
Should wear a warning

First, Idike IS toxic to whoever meets her. Her thorns have ensnared and killed many. Then again, Ludwig proves to be more toxic than her.

The All-American Rejects – It Ends Tonight
All these thoughts locked inside
Now you’re the first to know

Finally Idike admits the truth to herself, and the thorns fall. Unfortunately, when Ludwig kisses her awake, her time begins again, and 100 years catches up with her in an instant. Idike awakens to share just one kiss with her prince… and then sleeps forever, truly.

Side B: Japanese and InstrumentalsHere.

Mark Keali’i Ho’omalu and Kamehameha Schools Children’s Chorus – He Mele No Lilo
In the heavenly brightness
The beauty is revealed

When Idike is born, everyone rejoiced. Alternately it could also be the song for when Idike meets Ludwig, the poor girl.

Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart – Sonata in D for two pianos – I. Allegro con spirito
Cheerful, uplifting, perhaps this is what would describe Idike’s childhood.

TRAX – Blaze Away

Why do you sigh like you’re the only one in pain,
When every one of us is a jagged piece of a whole?

Translation here.
Need I say anything more, really?

Olivia – Dress Me Up
Why aren’t you giving me a chance?
I have a way of my own
Why are you being so damn cruel?

The revelation that she was rejected for her birth… and still managed to stay in the palace made some women (read: her father’s mistresses) angry and jealous.

Gensomaden Saiyuki – Hakkai no Theme
Isolated, alone. Sad.

Nana Kitade – Kesenai Tsumi
Kesenai Tsumi translates to Inerasable Sin. (If I’ve used this song too many
times please let me know!)

SIAM SHADE – DREAMLESS WORLD
We control you.
You don’t need freedom.
You don’t need hope.
You don’t need dreams.

As a Princess, and being told about her “past”, Idike snaps.

Angela Aki – Kiss Me Good-Bye
Title says it all. Goodbye, Ludwig.

Le Rar.

Crit welcome. I hope you enjoy this!
