Your Generation

The family went out for a rare family dinner. My brother and I normally give it a miss because dealing with a menopausing mother and a middle-age crisis father is more than either one of us can handle, much less together, but today’s was surprisingly pleasant. We were cordial towards each other and for once, the meal was actually enjoyable.

I was complaining about the effort to send the second astronaut to space. Why in the world do we need to send the second joker up? It’s wasting another RM30million RM105Million (Thanks for the correction, Yi Liang!) of taxpayers’ money! It doesn’t help that most people in the government and in power serve themselves rather than the people who put them there.

My dad said something that I was quite surprised at.

“It now depends on your generation. The ones from mine can’t be helped.”

The question that arises is: So, what can I do?

Raise awareness? Check.

Organise rallies to protest? As recent cases will show, it doesn’t really work.

Talk about it till my face turns blue? Done.

Vote? I truly wonder how many people will show their displeasure with this measure. I know I will.

What about you?

  1. What about a martyr?

Geminianeyes: Martyrs don’t really leave an impression on this country, as sad as it may be. That or they become twisted into something else.

  2. Sometimes I wonder if we have to resolve to violence…

Considering the impression that the history of freedom has always been fought with bloodshed.

  3. There s definitely something we can do, but only if MANY of us do it together: WRITE TO THE PAPERS.

We need to get as many people as possible to write to the Editors of the local papers to air our views. If enough people write to “complain”, I am sure the issue would be highlighted in the papers one day, and JJ would have to make an appearance or something to explain to the rakyat.

    What say you?

    Geminianeyes: Sounds great!

  4. Don’t pay tax… rolls!

They send a guy to space so that he can answer question from High school/Primary kids. Nice.
