Just some quick updates and a few things I’d thought I’d put down before I go back to the grind:

According to Harian Metro (local tabloid) Zakaria Deros, the Klang Municipal councillor who built a palatial 7-storey mansion in Klang in the midst of a poor urban area, passed away last night due to sesak nafas (in Malay, that means breathing difficulties). Considering that he was a spry 66-year old before he passed away, you have to admit, the timing’s a little… convenient.

Selangor, my home state, does not have a government yet and Khalid Ibrahim, whom I’m told is a very capable, straight (lurus bendul– straight as an arrow) and honest man was not sworn in yesterday. Instead, the Sultan of Selangor (whom I have utmost respect for- DAULAT TUANKU!) has instead ordered the DAP and PAS representatives to present themselves to them (menghadap Sultan– damnit this sounds so much better in Malay!). According to news reports, this is because he wants to ensure that they are capable of forming a coalition government that is strong enough to govern Selangor.

This move doesn’t surprise me. After all, in the days of Malaysia being Islamisicised, Duli Yang Maha Mulia Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah came out in protection of Klang’s Convent Schools heritage. My mother was one of those who was sent to a Convent School instead of a Chinese school, and I am glad that she was. It is also interesting to note that according to Wikipedia, DYMM Sultan Sharafuddin is single, divorced with three children at this point.
