Morning news

Edit 1: Comments from here and here make me glad to be a Selangorian. Links go to Elizabeth Wong’s blog.

I’m sure I’ll find more as I go along, so here’s a single post.

For those who were following the trail of the little boy, he’s been found, thank the Goddess.

In other news, politics in Malaysia got much dirtier than usual. The latest scandal in Selangor (which means that BN is most likely to be targeting Selangor instead of Kedah):

On Sunday, news broke about a Selangor Assemblywoman (aka state representative) whose nude pictures had been circulating.

On Monday, this was followed by revelations that the woman in question was Elizabeth Wong, a PKR rep. As the photos are said to be of her alone in her bed sleeping in the nude, it is supposed to be a scandal. I don’t see why it is.

The Nut Graph has a better and longer summary than I do.

According to Malaysiakini, she is expected to announce her resignation today at 11AM. I for one, hope that she does not. Despite what Syed Hamid and Toyo are saying, this is quite a different issue from the Chua Soi Lek scandal.

For one, she was sleeping partially nude. Keyword: SLEEPING. Alone too, to boot.

Two: She is unmarried. CSL wasn’t just married, he was having an extramarital affair. If you want to debate morals, isn’t a man having an affair without the knowledge of his wife worse than a woman sleeping in the nude?

Three: CSL cheated on his wife. No argument. Ms Wong? Simply sleeping.

Four: She’s a member of the opposition. That alone answers a LOT of questions as to why she’s being hounded and why there’s so much ambiguity when the mainstream press reports it.

Five: Can you say personal attacks?

I don’t know what else to say, except that if she resigns, it would be a bloody shame.

  1. What I want to know is: who took photos of Elizabeth Wong sleeping in the first place?

Geminianeyes: According to the news, probably a former boyfriend, but someone else has brought up the possibility of a man sneaking into her house while she was asleep and taking those photos.
