2009 in review

Grabbed this from a few people on LJ. Figured it’d be the best way to remember everything. Or as much as I could.

What did you do in 2009 that you’d never done before?
Took a whole month off for studies from work, and went back to work after that. Got my certification to teach English.

Did you keep your new years resolutions, and will you make more for next year?
I did make a few, the most memorable one being the Project 365 that failed. Heh. But no, I won’t make any for next year. I’ll just stick to my goals instead.

Did anyone close to you give birth?
My colleague gave birth to a beautiful baby girl. And I also have a new cousin.

Did anyone close to you die?
My aunt.

What countries did you visit?
I stayed within Malaysia this time around. :3

What would you like to have in 2010 that you lacked in 2009?
The drive to keep moving. As in physically moving. I want my ability to think to come back, and not come up short whenever I have a disagreement. I want the ability to keep smiling and be positive instead of being snarky and dragging people down.

What date from 2009 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?
June 12, 2009. My birthday because despite the tragedy surrounding it, those who loved me showed it, as opposed to those who resented me.

What was your biggest achievement of the year?
Getting that cert and realising I was one step closer to my dream. Keeping my cool when it came to dealing with relatives. Hugging those I love. <3

What was your biggest failure?
Allowing my cousin to insult me when I should not have let her get away with it. Letting those who needed me down.

Did you suffer illness or injury?
Not at the moment.

What was the best thing you bought?
Books. New harddrive. My monitor! πŸ˜€ Presents (when I could afford it) for those who mattered!

Whose behaviour merited celebration?
Comic Fiesta Helpers for coming even though they had exams. The Random thread for never giving up and showing me what it means to keep going on. IRC For coming up with some of the most random memories of the year. May and Silvy sis for hanging on, come what may. Raz for teaching me how to be gentle and patient. Gan for showing cool-headedness under pressure. Yuhi for the funnies.

Joyce for realising she’s human. Windy for being just as unpredictable as her name. Ian for keeping us all sane by driving us insane.

Just to name a few. πŸ˜›

Whose behaviour made you appalled and depressed?
People whom I wish I did not know, who showed they had no respect for me or my family.

Where did most of your money go?
God knows! Actually, living costs and my studies earlier this year.

What did you get really, really, really excited about?
Going up to Penang for Zero’s wedding, cause it would be the first time I was attending a full Chinese wedding without my parents.

Going to GACC on a Friday and making a roadtrip about it with Silvy and the rest of the gang.

Nanowrimo.

What song/album will always remind you of 2009?
Again by Yui.

Compared to this time last year, are you:
Happier or sadder? Happier, cause Mom is finally NOT having an Open House and this means more time to relax.
Thinner or fatter? Fatter. πŸ™ I didn’t look after myself well enough this year.
Richer or poorer? Poorer. Cost of living went up when I wasn’t looking and I had many more impulsive buys this year than last year.

What do you wish you’d done more of?
Spend more time with people I care about physically instead of going into a hermit state.

What do you wish you’d done less of?
Getting myself worked up over people who don’t matter to me personally.

How will you be spending/did you spend Christmas?
Helping Mom out for the Christmas lunch and hopefully relaxing with a good book afterwards.

Who did you spend the most time on the phone with?
My webmaster and my adopted IRC family. <3

Did you fall in love in 2009?
Yes. Hello Mythology. I missed you.

How many one night stands in this last year?
Sorry Wonderland Online, I can’t quite get back into playing with you yet.

What was your favourite TV programme?
Don’t watch much TV.

Do you hate anyone now that you didn’t hate this time last year?
Unfortunately, yes, but am learning to let it go. Right now it’s at a tolerable blergh.

What was the best book(s) you read?
No Plot, No Problem! (Still reading it in fact). ‘Tis a journey of learning.

What was your greatest musical discovery?
Nana Kitade and Yui. πŸ˜›

What did you want and get?
My Adv Dip in TESOL. Time with those whom I love more than anything else in the world. Great sleep. The SIMS 3! XD

What did you want and not get?
A job offer to Japan. πŸ˜›

What were your favourite films of this year?
Star Trek, Muallaf. Incidentally they were 2 of the films I caught in the cinema. XD

What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you?
My parents took me and my brother to Palace of the Golden Horses for dinner. I am 25.

What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?
A job offer to teach in Japan would do right about now. πŸ˜€

How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2009?
Mainly sporty casual towards being sloppy.

What kept you sane?
Rediscovering reading books and insane things happening in the office.

Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most?
Hakkai. πŸ˜€

What political issue stirred you the most?
The fact that after all this time, our daughters are still being raped, murdered and sodomised with no one bothering to do anything about it.

Who did you miss?
My muses. Myself.

Who was the best new person you met?
I like almost everyone I meet. XD

Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2009.
Shutting up and merely listening without judging.

Quote a song lyric that sums up your year?
I want to survive
I still want to live
I love you

Lion from May’n, ironically.

Also, Abingdon’s Boys School’s HOWLING:

A night sky full of cries
Hearts filled with lies
The contract…
Is it worth the price?

A soul pledged to the darkness
Now I’ve lost it
I know I can kill
Does truth exists beyond the gates?
